At first I thought it was my bad maths skills but no, there’s something completely illogical happening in the world of medicine and it directly relates to World Hepatitis Awareness Day, May 19th 2008.

The problem is this: There are over 9 times more Hepatitis sufferers (500 million) in the world than there are HIV sufferers (50 million), yet the funding for the research into Hepatitis is considerably smaller.

Why is this? It seems that Hepatitis is largely ignored by World Health Organisations, and this is why the World Hepatitis Alliance is campaigning this week up until Monday 19th to raise awareness of the life threatening disease. The public can help out by signing the campaign at www.aminumber12.org.
